Dennis J. Lewis
Dennis J. Lewis is a distinguished trial attorney with extensive experience in corporate and commercial litigation. He has successfully represented clients in litigation involving a broad range of substantive areas including public utility litigation, unfair competition, antitrust law, toxic torts, trademark infringement, banking law, construction and real estate, shareholder disputes and tax litigation.
Mr. Lewis has experience in a variety of corporate and commercial litigation matters, including the successful defense of an accounting firm in a securities fraud and RICO action; the successful defense of a Fortune 500 company in an action involving radioactive waste remediation; an action before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court which established service territorial rights for natural gas public utilities; an action before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court which established voting procedures for the Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission; an action before the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit which established criteria for the payment of professional fees and interest in bankruptcy; the successful defense of a Fortune 500 company in an action regarding the termination of retiree benefits, which included the defeat of a class certification attempt; an action before the United States Court of Claims resulting in the invalidation of an IRS regulation regarding Western Hemisphere Trade Corporations; an action which resulted in the recovery of treble damages and attorneys' fees in a trademark infringement case; the successful representation of a corporation in its claim against insurance carriers for the recovery of costs related to environmental remediation; and the successful prosecution of an injunction action for unfair competition and violation of non-compete covenants in the life insurance industry.
Mr. Lewis graduated cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law in 1975, where he was Senior Articles and Comments Editor of the University of Miami Law Review. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the University of Pennsylvania in 1970.
A member of the American, Pennsylvania, Allegheny County and Federal Bar Associations, Mr. Lewis has been admitted to practice law in all Pennsylvania courts, the United States Supreme Court, the United States Courts of Appeal for the Third, Fourth, Sixth and Eleventh Circuits and the United States District Courts for the Western District of Pennsylvania and the Eastern District of Michigan.
Before forming LEWIS LAW GROUP LLC, he was a shareholder and director of the law firm of Cohen & Grigsby, P.C. where he was Chairman of the Litigation Department. From 1975 to 1984 he was a partner and associate in the law firm of Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, LLC. He is a native of Pennsylvania and currently resides in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania.
